Hi again Stefan,

I'd really like to get a newer version of bacula-sd running on the ReadyNAS NV+ (ideally, version 5.0.1 to match the packaged version with Ubuntu 10.04)

I'm reading through the Netgear doco on making a frontview addon, and if I have to start from scratch, I will, but... do you have a pre-made template that I can use? And any words of wisdom? Anything that makes the job easier would be appreciated :-)

Thanks Stefan, that's great to know. I'm looking to set up a couple of NV+ units as Bacula Storage Daemons (director will live on a dedicated, more powerful machine).

How difficult is the packaging to do? I might have a go at building a newer version if it's not too steep a learning curve.

You should have been looking here: http://readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=47&t=34844 to get to the right downloads for the Sparc line;) So basically, it doesn't matter what line of ReadyNAS systems you buy, Bacula is (at the moment in a bit dated version) available for both.

I am not clear if this will work on x86 models only, or it will work on the older sparc/infrant models such as the NV+

The reason for this confusion is that the files are specified as Intel here: http://readynas.com/forum/viewtopic.php?f=48&t=35631

And listed as being for NVX (and other Pro models, but not NV+) here: http://readynasfreeware.org/projects/pro-bacula/files

but Jan-Piet shows a screenshot using this package on an NV+ here: http://blog.fupps.com/2009/10/31/bacula-3-0-2-on-readynas-nv/ and as far as I know, the NV+ is a sparc model.

Can you clear this up for me? I'm looking forward to trying out bacula on the ReadyNAS units (just as a storage daemon, with a director on a dedicated server) but I need to know which platforms I should purchase.

Thanks!
