Firewall Fiction

With broadband routers becoming more and more common even in private households, using and maintaining a firewall is no longer the exclusive job of a professional IT administrator. Even the mainstream IT press is starting to cover the setup and configuration of firewalls and there are many tips and tricks to be found on public web sites.

However, as with many new technologies, there are a lot of “urban myths” to be found about how firewalls work and about what they and some of their settings actually do. Below, you’ll find the most common errors when dealing with firewalls in particular order. Check for yourself whether you stumbled in one of the traps listed.
