iTunes Streaming vom Linux-Server

  1. Hello Stefan,

I hope you don’t mind I post here as I don’t have an e-mail address. (I got this link from VoWe)

I just wanted to ask you wether you managed to get iTunes for Windows to work with the daapd server.

Much to my surprise, I hooked up a win-XP machine to my LAN but it doesn’t detect the daapd server.

Suppose Win is lacking rendezvous however, from mac to win it works so there must be something I am missing here.

    Any suggestion?

  2. Yes, it does work for me on my Windows machines. To make sure I didn’t do anything unusual I jsut installed iTunes 4.7 on a fresh install of Windows XP and it picked up my daapd (currently mt-daapd but should work with daapd, too) server without any problems.

The only thing I could think of which would deny your windows box access to your daapd server is a personal firewall running on the windows client and blocking access to port 3689. (In case of XP that could very well be the Internet Connection Firewall. Did you install SP2 and if so, did you re-check the firewall settings afterwards?)

It shouldn’t be a problem of Rendezvous support because it’s not the client who is looking for the server. Rather the server announces it’s presence on the LAN so all the clients have to do is listening.

In case these hints don’t lead to a solution for you, you might want to contact me via IM. For I’m not going to publish my IM account here, please ask VoWe to provide you with this information.

  3. It was the firewall.
Just opening it and a waiting for a few seconds was enough for the daapd server to appear in iTunes server list..

The magics of iTunes and rendezvous :-)

    Thanks anyway
